New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday released its first list for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, which is expected to be held in early 2025.
“Aam Aadmi Party has released the first list of 11 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections (2025). The names were finalized in the meeting of the Political Affairs Committee chaired by the party’s National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal. These 11 seats Most of them are those on which elections are not being held currently by AAP,” AAP leader Gopal Rai said.
Former BJP leaders Brahm Singh Tanwar, Anil Jha and Bibi Tyagi along with former Congress leaders Chaudhary Zubair Ahmed, Veer Dhingan and recent AAP entrant Sumesh Shaukeen have also been included in the party’s first list.

The last Delhi Assembly elections were held in February 2020, where AAP won decisively by securing 62 out of 70 seats. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could secure only 8 seats and Congress failed to open its account. Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister.
However, Kejriwal’s tenure faced major challenges. In March 2024, he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering investigation related to the canceled Delhi Excise policy. He was later arrested by the CBI in June 2024, making him the first sitting CM to be arrested. The Supreme Court had granted bail to Kejriwal in September after his plea was upheld by the Delhi High Court.
