In the opening Super Over, Perry hit a six and a four as the Sixers reached 15 for 0 off the spin bowling of Amy Edgar. Gardner responded by removing Beth Mooney with a sharp return catch, although replays showed the ball was on the ground before Hinckley provided the final play.
Both sides gained one point each, with the Scorchers (nine points) moving from fifth to fourth, while the Sixers (eight points) remained at sixth.
Perry performed brilliantly with the bat and Gardner did the same with the ball – he took 4 for 21 as the Scorchers dramatically lost their last 9 wickets for 31 runs.
The duo took the score to a strong 72 for 1 after 10 overs, but Halliday became Gardner’s second victim after 23 runs, ending the 85-run partnership with Mooney. Halliday’s dismissal began the decline. Mooney followed in the next over and from then on Sophie Devine reached double figures.
This left the Sixers needing 20 runs from 15 balls, and the equation was 12 runs to win off the last over bowled by Edgar, who conceded 11 runs.
Edgar was called to bowl a super over and Perry hit a six and a four. Gardner then conceded the same amount, while Hinckley remained unbeaten on 14 runs from four balls – three of which he took across the boundary.
